My main areas of expertise are the sociology of families and gender and comparative social policy. I coordinate the Observatory on Families and Family Policies and have worked since 1995 as an expert on family policies in Europe. My research interests include family forms and interactions, work-family balance, men’s roles in families, gendered divisions of labour, family and work-life policies, and the impact of the crisis on families and children.
How might this research change lives?
I combine national expertise from a Southern European country (Portugal) with a very striking and specific pathway in terms of family and gender, with cross-national European expertise. My focus on fathers and men in families has highlighted the need to develop research and policies on men in gender equality.
